City Highlights - The Beauty of Macedonia Captured Through Travelsofmozzy’s Eyes:

Embark on a journey as Travelsofmozzy unveils the captivating essence of Macedonia's cities.

Skopje:

Skopje, the dynamic heart of North Macedonia, became my home base as I embarked on a captivating adventure. From the heights of Vodno Mountain, where you can see one of the biggest crosses in the world, the Millennium Cross, to the serene beauty of Matka Canyon, Skopje's allure kept me captivated.

The vibrant atmosphere of Debar Maalo with its many cafes, bars and restaurants offering traditional Macedonian food, and the centuries-old stories echoing through the Old Bazaar added to the city's enchantment. Skopje's blend of tradition and modernity, highlighted by its iconic landmarks and hidden gems, offered a dynamic backdrop to my Macedonian odyssey.

Must-do: Go to “Kafana” - Skopje boasts a variety of local kafanas where you can indulge in mouthwatering grilled meats such as kebabs and plescavica, alongside refreshing salads like the famous 'shopska salad.' Traditional dishes like sarma, gravce tavce, pinjur, and zelnik, as well as delightful desserts like baklava, await your taste buds.”

Ohrid:

“Resting beside Lake Ohrid, this town felt like stepping into a history book. Wandering through its winding streets, I discovered a mix of ancient churches and charming buildings. The Old Town was a UNESCO site, with Samuel's Fortress offering stunning sunset views. The locals shared tales of the past, and the beauty of Ohrid's history and nature left a lasting impression on me.

Must-do: Capture a magical sunset from the majestic walls of Samuel's Fortress and visit the Bay of Bones.”

Prilep:

“Similar to other captivating destinations in Macedonia, Prilep boasts a wealth of cultural and historical treasures, nestled within its picturesque natural landscapes. As I wandered through the city, I encountered the remarkable 13th-century Marko’s Tower, the elegant Ottoman-era clock tower, and the enchanting Church of St. Dimitrij. These landmarks echoed with the whispers of bygone eras, contributing to the captivating tapestry of Prilep's heritage.

Must-visit: Seek serenity in the spiritual haven of Treskavec Monastery, perched on a rocky hilltop.”

Berovo:

“Berovo's warm hospitality resonates in every interaction, inviting you to engage with the locals and forge connections that add depth to your journey. Whether you're exploring the ethereal beauty of the pine-clad landscape, relishing the local flavors, or embracing the town's cultural nuances, Berovo weaves an unforgettable tapestry of experiences, making it a destination that leaves an indelible mark on your heart.

Must-visit: Berovo Lake, offering an array of walking and hiking trails, along with secluded picnic spots, this destination provides ample opportunities for unwinding and enjoying outdoor activities.”

Kavadarci:

“In Kavadarci, the "Wine Capital," I had the chance to see many of the sun-kissed vineyards. I savored local wines and discovered a town where viticulture and heritage unite. Engaging with locals, I felt the genuine spirit of a community that has cultivated its viticultural legacy with passion. Kavadarci invites you to savor its wines and immerse yourself in the soul of a vibrant Macedonian destination.

Must-do: Go on a wine-tasting tour in one of the many winaries. “

Krusevo:

“Nestled as a true hidden treasure within North Macedonia, Kruševo proudly bears the title of the highest town in the Balkans, perched gracefully at an elevation of 1,350 meters above sea level.

Adding to Kruševo's allure, this charming town plays host to a significant annual event that commemorates the Ilinden Uprising, a courageous rebellion that unfolded against the Ottoman Empire in the heat of August 1903.

As my journey unfolded, I encountered the Makedonium – an imposing and distinctive monument that stands as an emblem of the valiant struggles etched in Macedonia's history. Its towering presence pays homage to the unwavering courage that shaped the town's narrative, a living testament to the indomitable spirit of Kruševo.

Must-visit: Tose Proeski Memorial House. Tose Proeski, a celebrated Macedonian singer and humanitarian, left an enduring legacy through his emotive music and dedication to philanthropy, tragically, his promising journey was cut short on October 16, 2007, when he lost his life at the age of 26 in a car accident in Croatia.

Tose Proeski's extraordinary talent, philanthropic spirit, and genuine humility have forever etched his name in the annals of Balkan music history. His music remains a source of solace, inspiration, and joy for generations to come, reminding us that true artists have the power to touch hearts and change lives.”

Tetovo:

Tetovo, often overlooked by tourists, proved to be a hidden gem during my North Macedonia exploration. Situated just 45 km away from Skopje, this town has a lot to offer. What captured my attention the most was the mesmerizing Painted Mosque, a true architectural masterpiece.

Dating back to 1438, the mosque boasts intricate decorations, setting it apart with its vibrant floral motifs. The illustration of Mecca, the Islamic world's holy site, makes this mosque unique.

Must-visit: Arabati Baba Tekke Monastery.”
